Tunisia have sacked coach Sabri Lamouchi following a crushing 5-1 defeat against Sweden. Lamouchi took over as coach of the team in January and managed only five matches, one of which was a 1–0 win against Haiti. The Tunisian Football Association has announced that Mondhar Kebair will be the interim coach. Kebayer previously coached the Tunisian teams between 2019-2022 and is expected to coach the team during the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Tunisia will play Japan in their second group match, after which they will take on the Netherlands. Lamouchi's removal was announced on Instagram, with the Tunisian Football Association releasing a statement that read, "A consensus has been fully reached for the removal of coach Sabri Lamouchi. Mondhar Kebair is planned to be appointed as the team coach." Reports of dissatisfaction with Lamouchi were already coming in before the start of the World Cup and after the 5–0 defeat against Belgium it was clear that his coaching was in jeopardy.
Tunisia have never made it out of the group stage at the World Cup and will now look to pick up points in both their matches against Japan and the Netherlands.
