Freiburg transferred 10 million euros for Japanese player Goto

Freiburg have sent 10 million euros for Keisuke Goto from Belgium's RSC Anderlecht, taking their spending this summer to 29 million euros. Freiburg's management have hit their transfer targets very quickly and have already budgeted for big spending. For example, Igor Matanovic, currently at the World Cup with Croatia, has been selected as a centre-forward and has scored 12 goals in the Bundesliga and Europa League since January, requiring Goto to come in behind him. Freiburg had already planned to buy Goto several months ago. Lucas Höller, who can also play up front, is set to act as back-up to Yuito Suzuki, the third Japanese in the squad. Therefore, Saier and sporting director Clemens Hartenbach aim to buy another central attacker. "SC Freiburg showed a lot of interest in me several months ago," Goto said: "I felt from the beginning that the management really wanted me, that was one of the main reasons I chose Freiburg." Nicklas Best and Cyriac Irie are flanked by Vicenzo Grifo and Darry Scherhante on the left and right. Thus, Freiburg have filled all four of their attacking positions twice for the upcoming season.
