4.2 million viewers at the opening match of the Netherlands

The opening match in the Netherlands drew 4.2 million viewers on Sunday night. This information is derived from National Media Monitoring (NMO) data. Viewers on NPO 1 saw the Netherlands lose a last minute win against Japan. The viewership is almost identical to the last World Cup. During the 2022 tournament, 4.3 million people watched the Netherlands' first match, a 0–2 win against Senegal. On Sunday itself, Curaçao also played against Germany and that match was also seen well. 2.5 million people watched as Dick Advocate's team made their World Cup debut, but lost by a huge margin. The Netherlands will continue their World Cup campaign against Sweden on Saturday, followed by their final match against Tunisia. Curacao still have to play against Ecuador and Ivory Coast.
