World Cup 2026: Germany intervene, Ivory Coast beat Ecuador

The fourth day of the World Cup 2026 was filled with many goals and historic moments. Germany opened their tournament with a resounding 7-1 win over Curaçao. This is the fourth time Germany have scored seven or more goals in a World Cup. It is Curaçao's first time playing in the World Cup and they scored a goal, scored by Livano Comancia.
In the match between Japan and the Netherlands, Japan continued their scoring streak with a 2–2 draw. Japan midfielder Daichi Kamada scored the equalizer in the 88th minute of the game.

Ivory Coast beat Ecuador in their World Cup opener with a 90th-minute goal from Amad Diallo. This is the first time that Ivory Coast have won against a higher ranked region.
Sweden won 5–1 against Tunisia, marking only the second time Sweden have scored five or more goals at the World Cup.
